But here, the smart camerawork serves to stylise and romanticise the cars, which is what fans want. If you're after realism, I'd still recommend Forza 2, or R-factor. Which leads me to believe GRID is something everyone can enjoy, but few people will make it their racer of choice. Well, GRID compromised and while arcade racers might get frustrated with the difficulty, realism racers will definitely get frustrated with the lack of options. In a world of simulation racers and silly fun racers, you can't please everyone. This is exactly the kind of game you'd want to have crazy crashes with your mates sitting next to you, and you can't. There's a LAN option as well, but that really only benefits PC users. But there's a huge omission here Baj and that's the lack of splitscreen multiplayer. I would've like to see a rear-view mirror, but all round I think the camera MAKES this game. You get more reputation for NOT using this feature, but that didn't stop me. When you're done enjoying the carnage you can rewind to a place where you feel comfortable, and actually RESUME the race from that point. If you do find yourself in a bad way, you'll get the opportunity to rewind & replay the crash as many times as you like. I know a lot about bumps in racing games Jung - scrapes too. It's like every little bump and scrape is given flavour. Tight turns will tilt the camera off-centre, small bumps will give it a little shake, and cinematic angles let you see the full impact of crashes. I did, however, giggle maniacally when I found I wouldn't have to pay for car damage. Yeah sometimes when you're up against top racing teams, you're actually advised to aim for a lower position.Īnd say what you want about the punishment system being too lenient, but if you spin out of control, you're still knocked back to last place with very little chance coming back. It gives the impression it's a non-serious racing title, but it's actually very hard to finish first. To say there are more cosmetic options than practical ones is an understatement. Not to mention punishment could be more realistic - but then again, I spose you wouldn't get away with those crazy bumps & grinds when you overtake about 3 cars on a turn, and those are a lot of fun. Very little emphasis was placed here on handling differences between cars, and simulation fans will be further frustrated when they find out there are NO options to tune your car. Likewise, if you think another racer is a threat, you can put him out of commission. Certain race seasons have seen numerous ultra-talented competitors take to the track, so it’s important to recognize the competition that was beaten out when analyzing a driver’s success on the race track. Other racers are still on set paths, but they won't hold back from knocking you around. In the same vein, just as important as the car and team is the other drivers constituting the grid at the time. In fact, the only thing better than admiring these beautifully rendered cars is smashin' em up. We found it easy enough to set up with a racing wheel, and needless to say the graphics are nothing short of top-notch. Often the money comes with conditions though, such as a podium finish, or beating a rival team. You can stick to one camera view, turn off driver assists, and even just drive manual to earn more reputation.Įventually, sponsors will want to give you money, and, you'll want to take it. Making it harder on yourself will earn you more reputation points. GRID is using an evolved version of their new engine, brought from the dirt track to the streets.Īs to be expected, you'll start out as an amateur racer, building up both money to buy better cars, and reputation points for entry into more advanced competitions. The 2 have more in common than 4 capital letters. Now, Codemasters are gearing up for their next title, Race Driver GRID. Mitsubishi 2.Colin McRae's DIRT was a really good game, combining simple fast fun with rally racing realism.Note: Only works with the Grid v1.3 patch. This addon converts the Mac version of the DLCs to work fully functional on the PC - giving players a total of 18 new cars, and a new track to race in Race Day or multiplayer modes (unfortunately the new content isn't available in the career mode at this time - credits for the work go to Beaver_XT aka Beaverz). After Codemasters released the 8 Ball Pack and Prestige Pack DLC for the console versions of Grid, they eventually found their way onto the Mac version, but sadly PC players have never had access to this new content.
